ENERGY TOKENIZATION
A programmable settlement layer for energy, attributes, flexibility, savings and future capacity.
Electricity is already measured, traded and settled. Tokenization adds a machine-readable representation of the right attached to that energy: origin, delivery, flexibility, verified savings, capacity, receivable or another precisely defined claim.
Here “token” means a programmable digital record of a defined energy-related right, attribute or receivable. The legal wrapper can be a registry entry, certificate, contract, digital right, security, commodity instrument or other regulated form depending on jurisdiction. Physical electricity remains subject to local grid and market rules.

THE CORE IDEA
Do not try to put the electron on a blockchain. Start with facts that already exist in meters, market systems and certificate registries. Verify them through an oracle. Then issue a digital claim that can be transferred, financed, settled and retired without losing traceability.

COUNTRY / MARKET LENSES
The opportunity is global because the base layer already exists in many forms: guarantees of origin, RECs, GECs, CELs, smart meters, locational prices, settlement systems and microgrid telemetry.
SERBIA
EMS is the issuing body and registry operator for electronic Guarantees of Origin. The Serbian system uses certificates for the attributes of 1 MWh and participates in the EECS/AIB framework.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: use Serbia as a Balkan sandbox linking verified renewable origin, bilateral power contracts, banks and cross-border settlement.
INDIA
CERC amended the Renewable Energy Certificate framework in 2026 and issued Guidelines for Virtual Power Purchase Agreements. In parallel, India Energy Stack is being built as digital public infrastructure for interoperable, auditable power-sector data exchange.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: programmable asset IDs + REC/VPPA + meter data + settlement at national scale. India is one of the strongest places to test energy tokenization as infrastructure rather than a niche financial product.
CHINA
China operates a national Green Electricity Certificate system at enormous scale. In July 2026, 54.68 million GECs were traded, with wind and solar as the core traded categories.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: attach programmable settlement, manufacturing provenance and export-supply-chain claims to an already massive green-attribute infrastructure.
TEXAS
ERCOT already runs the Texas REC program. In July 2026 the PUCT approved a new Energy Attribute Certificate Program, with Phase 1 effective 1 August 2026.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: put a programmable claim layer beside a mature wholesale / retail market and a newly expanded attribute-certificate architecture.
ARKANSAS
Arkansas is actively working through DER and grid-modernization policy. Its net-metering rules use digital metering and can tie avoided-cost updates to locational marginal prices in MISO and SPP.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: tokenize local surplus, flexibility and avoided-cost value at the distribution/RTO boundary, especially for new industrial and data-center loads.
ALASKA
Alaska has roughly 200 isolated microgrids, many historically dependent on imported diesel. In 2026 the Alaska Energy Authority is again funding renewable-energy projects through the Renewable Energy Fund.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: tokenize diesel displacement, local renewable output, storage availability and resilience savings inside a closed, measurable community energy system.
MEXICO
Mexico uses Clean Energy Certificates (CEL) to evidence clean electricity production and compliance by load-serving participants. CELs are part of the wholesale electricity market architecture.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: programmable clean-energy attributes tied to bilateral contracts, industrial consumers and settlement in the Mexican market.
NAURU
ADB-backed infrastructure combines a 6 MW grid-connected solar plant with a 5 MW / 2.5 MWh BESS and existing diesel generation in one island system.
OPPORTUNITYPilot thesis: an unusually clean closed-loop laboratory. Every kWh, battery action and avoided diesel cost can be measured, attributed and settled in a compact sovereign system.
